ANTHONY CARNEGIE Obituary

Anthony was born in Port Maria, Jamaica. He was one of nine children (seven brothers and two sisters). After the passing of his parents during his teen years, he stayed with his maternal grandmother.

He enlisted in the Royal Air Force during World War II was stationed at several airbases in the United Kingdom. He returned to Jamaica in June 1946 and worked in the Control Tower at the Kingston International Airport. He married his first wife, Nola, and soon had Dwight, Margaret, and Randolph.

A short stay in the hospital brought him into Providential contact with literature that inspired him to learn more about Seventh-Day Adventist beliefs and he made his decision to follow Christ, even in the face of marital and economic consequences.

His natural talents for service and encouragement was expressed in the formation of a Pathfinder group at North Street Church, which soon became the largest Pathfinder and Master Guide groups in all of the Caribbean Conference with over 150 members,

He began his Civil Service career at the Lands Department and was instrumental in referring many members of the church to employment opportunities that resulted in lifelong careers in Civil Service. God's plan placed Shirley Aneita Smith in Anthony's life and their subsequent marriage placed them on a miracle-filled journey to the United States with several friends in 1964.

Academic goals brought them from New York -where John was born- to Massachusetts where Ruth, Peter, Naomi, and Stephen joined the family as Shirley studying to receive her degree in Biology. Anthony began his career at the Power Plant of the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, retiring 22 years ago after continuing his mission of encouraging and mentoring hundreds oy young men and women in careers and academic oppurtunities, as well as spiritual pursuits to enrich their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 54 years; one brother, Keith; seven children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
