Bernadette M. Elliott was born February 28, 1954 to Pearl Clark and Charles Hinds. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Boston, MA. Bernadette joined the Air Force, serving 10 years. Then she attended college in Michigan and at Umass with an art Major and businesses minor.
While attending UMass she joined the army, and became a full time Army Recruiter. Around that time she went to Carpentry school. It was there that she fell in love with a hammer.
Bernadette was not just the first black female, but the first female Firefighter, where she served in this role for 17 years in Weymouth, MA.
In 2006, she moved to Florida, where she joined and proudly served at Judah Church as an Usher. She was known for her humor, caring and nurturing. Her given family name was B-ma. She was known for her strict and loving approach.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by her brother, Richard Clark; two sons, Bryan Frazier, Jr. and Kenrick Frazier; daughters-in-law, Jessica R. Frazier and Virginia Frazier; other children, Lola, Lonnie, Bryan, Brandon and Nelson; 12 grandchildren, Kayla, Oliver “JJ”, Nadeaya, Joel, Tiara, Jr, Jayden, Kyah, Esther, Jasmine, Marcus, George; two great grandchildren, Jerry “JJ” and Elias together with a host of other family members and friends.
Bernadette’s “B Ma’s”, words to us, “Live with zest, and love with a zest of freedom. Be happy and don’t let no one take your joy away. We all have the choice, to feel the way we want. So be happy and enjoy life honestly.”
