Betty Kagler was born to the late Willie Ed Russell and Mattie Mae Russell on July 12, 1951, in Sanford, Florida, and was raised along with her sister Lynn by her Godparents, the late Isaac (Ike) and Doris Thomas. Betty graduated from Mt. Dora High School in 1969 and attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida, where she received her BA in Sociology. Upon graduation, she worked at Florida State University as an assistant librarian. However, while attending FAMU, she met and later married the love of her life in 1977, Earl Kagler and had a marriage that lasted 45 blessed years! Through their marriage, Betty gained a beautiful daughter, Dr. Fiesta Kagler-Martin, who would later bless them with three grandchildren: Lindsey, Alexis and Troy. Earl and Betty relocated to Tampa, Florida, where she began working with the U.S. Job Corps as a coordinator.
Their family was extended by the birth of their son, Bryan. Betty and Bryan shared a special bond. He would later bless her with three grandsons: Zion, Bryan Jr. and Savion.
Betty went on to work in sales for Time Warner Company and took an early retirement to return to Eustis to care for her beloved aunt Doris Thomas and Lynn, whom she loved dearly. She became the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for King’s Taste BBQ Sauce, LLC and remained with them until her untimely demise. She will always be loved and certainly be missed.
