Bruce Cantrell Behrens was born on September 28, 1942, in Evansville, Illinois, to Wesley Behrens and Dorothy Cantrell Behrens. During his childhood, Bruce and his family relocated to Scarsdale, New York. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Bruce was an award-winning photographer and the owner of Behrens Photography, specializing in advertising, magazine print work, and wedding shoots. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Bruce served as City Manager for Bluffton, South Carolina, as well as for Ocoee and Avon Park, Florida. He had a lifelong passion for racing cars and was an active member of IMSA (The International Motor Sports Association). Bruce was also recognized for his humanitarian efforts.
He was married to Phyllis Jones Behrens for 17 years. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bob Behrens and Lynn Wiegret. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Scott Behrens (Ashli), Peter McKelvey, Charity Diaz, and Sarah Thompson; and his cherished furry companion, Scooter, a Pomeranian and Maltese mix.
