Gladys Ester Franco was born on April 27, 1941, in Aricebo, Puerto Rico, to Tomas Ortiz and Luisa Rosado. In 1951, she and her family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she later met and married Eligio Franco. Together, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2026. In 2002, the family settled in Clermont, Florida.
Affectionately known as "Mama Franco," Gladys was cherished as the neighborhood nanny. She had a deep love for caring for children and found joy in nurturing her plants, often giving each one a unique name. Her favorite meals included rice, cod fish, yucca, and homemade soup.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Eligio; her children, Francisco Franco, Daniel "Nene" Franco, Alejandro Franco, Wendy (Jose) Ruiz, and Mayra Franco; as well as her grandchildren, Samuel "Sammy," Nicole, Danielle, Danny Jr. "Nene," Moises, Alexakianna, Des-maray "Chi Chi," and Christopher "Nene."
