Jerry A. Brandt, age 85, passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL on October 26, 2023. He was born on January 11, 1938, in Harrisburg, PA to Lloyd Engle Brandt and Veda Barger Brandt. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1955 then joined the army where he served 3 years. In France he learned his trade of operating and maintenance of heavy equipment. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 66.
He married Janet Lynne Caum of Morrisville, PA, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. He is also survived by sons J. Allen (Shannon) of Salinas, CA, and Douglas Michael (Shelley) of New Castle, PA. Grandchildren are Nathan Douglas of Tampa, FL, David Michael of West Pittsburgh, PA, Mason Caum and Cara Patricia of Salinas, CA, and one great grandson, Noah Douglas of West Pittsburgh, PA. Jerry is survived by his brother, Richard Douglas Brandt of Enola, PA.
Preceding him in death are his parents, and sister Shirley Eppley of Franklin IN. His aunt Miriam (Peck) and cousin Sharon Sites shared a close bond with Jerry prior to their passing.
He loved life, family and friends alike. In 2000 when Janet retired, they began full time RVing, and traveled much of the east coast, finally settling in Frostproof, FL. One of his favorite things to do was dig for fossils in the Peace River. He enjoyed the quiet time with nature and the “high’” of a good find. It was repeated infections in his knee replacements that made him decide to stay out of the river. After 23 years in Frostproof they were in the process of moving to an independent/assisted living facility in Sebring, FL where Janet now resides.
