MATTIE YOUNG Obituary

Mattie Young Pratt of Tallahassee was born on October 28, 1930, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was the daughter of Eula and Eddie Pratt. Mattie passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mattie was baptized at an early age. She joined Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years. She later joined Kingdom Word Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Clifton Moore, where she served faithfully for 18 years. Mattie's favorite quote was "God won't put no more on you than you can bear". Mattie truly loved God and it showed in her kind ways and deeds. Lastly, Mattie was a former member of The Pride of Tallahassee Calantha, a community outreach group. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was married to the late Shelly Young for many years, until he passed away. To this union a daughter was born, Loretta Janice Young. Loretta was her loving caregiver for several years before her passing on March 1, 2023.

Mattie was a graduate of Florida A &M University with a Master's degree of Education. She was a devoted and loving elementary and middle school teacher. Her career started at Lake McBride School. Her last school was Fairview Middle School before ending her career. She retired after 30 years in the Leon County School System.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, daughter and 9 siblings. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her grandchildren, Earl Banks and Loreal Banks; great granddaughter that she adored, Loren Myers; sister, Bernice Pratt Morrison, nieces, Deborah Hannah, Willete Carter and Temprance Pratt; nephews, Willie Lorenzo Pratt, Willie Carter, Jr., and DuJuan Carter; and a host of great nieces and nephews, and many more relatives and friends.
