Robert “Bob” Sterling Schoonover
Bob was born January 14, 1947 in East Stroudsburg, PA. son of the late Tassie Lorraine (Staples) Schoonover and the late Robert Ellis Schoonover
He passed away following a heart attack/stroke on a golf course in Sebring, FL where he had traveled with a group of his buddies on their bi-annual golf outing. Bob is survived by his wife Katharine C. Miller, her children Marissa (Matt MacMullen) Miller and Andrew (Emily) Miller; his daughter Jody (Peter) Harris, and son Scott (Gretchen) Schoonover a sister Norma (Ray) Smith, and seven grandchildren.
He served in the U. S. Coast Guard, graduated from the ITT Tech School in Allentown, PA, worked for. and retired from IBM, had a lifelong passion for politics and served as mayor of Highland, NY. Throughout his life Bob loved and participated in most sports but concentrated on golf in his retirement years. Also, following his retirement, he became a part time maintenance person and a full time jack of all trades where in he developed the well earned reputation for helping anyone at any time. He daily held a politics of the day discussion session over coffee around his patio table. Not a day went by without the topic of his grandchildren and nephew being discussed. He was extremely proud of family. A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later time.
