Mother Sloan Von Jones was born on November 19, 1959, in Sebring, Florida, to James Bell Kerney, Jr and Willie Mae Evans. She peacefully passed away on February 27, 2026, in Sebring, Fl.
Ms. Jones spent her formative years in Avon Park, Florida, graduating with the Avon Park High School class of 1976. Carrying forward her family's legacy, she worked at Kerney's Funeral Home in Sebring—a business her grandfather established in the 1940s to serve the African American community during a time when local white funeral homes would not. Following her grandfather’s passing, her father, James Bell Kerney Jr., assumed leadership of the business in 1957. Ms. Jones played a vital role, assisting with transportation and cosmetic care for the deceased. In addition to her work with the family business, she dedicated more than 32 years to serving as a physical therapist assistant.
Faith was central to Ms. Jones’s life. She was a devoted member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus (ACOJ) and later joined Praise Temple COGIC, where her son-in-law, Pastor Nathaniel Crumedy, served as pastor. At Praise Temple, she was deeply honored to be recognized as one of the church’s mothers.
Ms. Jones found joy in gardening and studying her Sunday school lessons. She was also known for her kindness, regularly preparing meals for local widows in Avon Park and Sebring.
She is survived by her children: Jamie S. Crumedy (Pastor Nathaniel), Willie Lee Jones, Jr. (LaToya), Charles H. Brown, Jr. (Octavia), and Niesha J. Brown. She also leaves behind her siblings: Leon D. Kerney, Sr., James W. Kerney, Seresta Berry (Johnnie), James B. Kerney III (Denise), Walter D. Kerney, Tanisha Moore, Yolanda Kerney, and Shynieka Jackson. In addition, she will be fondly remembered by special friends Anita Hill, Ethel Vanador, Debra Coleman, Barbra Rowe, Laura Austin, and a host of other family and friends who mourn her loss.
