THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF TONY ROGER MATTHEWS

Tony Roger Matthews was born October 30, 1941 to the late Ella and Nelson Matthews in Clinton, Louisiana. He attended his school vears in Clinton, Louisiana and later moved to Florida at the age of 19. In 1964, Tony moved to Avon Park, Florida.

He worked picking fruit with the Coca Cola Company until his retirement. He also started his business in Lawn Care Service for many years throughout Highland County until he could no longer serve due to his health condition.

Deacon Tony was first a member of Beulah Baptist Church and then later joined the Apostolic Church of Jesus. He then moved to the Faith Pentecostal House of God in the year of 1996, where he served until the Lord called him home.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Nelson and Ella Matthews; siblings, Cleveland Matthews, Ellen London Matthews, Sylvester Matthews, Leola Matthews and Eldra Lee Matthews

He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife of 15 years, Claretha (Myra) Matthews; children, Theresa (Robert) Nelson, Tony, Jr. (Tango) Matthews of Avon Park, Florida, Linda Austin of Winter Haven, Florida, John Lee Matthews of Avon Park, Florida, Lahoma Matthews Aiken of Avon Park, Florida and Michael Grider of Avon Park, Florida step-daughter, Charlotte (Dave) Hazzard of Atlanta, Georgia; step-son, Ton

B. Myrick of Ft. Myers, Florida; two brothers. John Oliney of St. Gabriel, Louisiana and Robert Matthews of San Francisco, California; uncle, Ben Roger of Clinton, Louisiana and aunt, Paulette Fitzgerald of Louisiana; one goddaughter, Shacara Davis of Avon Park, Florida; one godson, Issac Mathis of LeHigh Acres, Florida; grandchildren, Demetrius Jones, Darion Matthews ( Chloe), Shacaroa Hodo, James Hampton, Jr., Al Jota Hampton, Fanta Hampton, Travious Sims, Reginald Evans, Jr., Tierra L Carter and Kristina Grider; great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
